John Thomas (otherwise John Brandy) (of the parish of Llanwenog, Cardiganshire) on 15 January 1773 in the parish of Llanpumsaint stole a bay gelding (value £4) belonging to Philip David (WALES 4/740/5)Shrewsbury Chronicle of Saturday, 3rd September reports “At Carmarthen last week JT and TD received sentence of death.  The former the principal of a notorious gang of horse stealers for many years is to be executed on Saturday s’ennight: the latter because of his yout has had his sentence mitigated to transportation.
